My Miami Spring Break experience saw me stay in a hostel dorm room for the first time in my life – not something I adapted entirely well to.
Miami Beach International Travellers Hostel is what I’d describe as a ‘Party Hostel’. The top pictures on the hostel’s website pretty adequately depict the number of people hanging around drinking outside and in the foyer most of the afternoon and night.
The hostel arranges a night out partying EVERY night so a good night’s sleep is incredibly hard to come by as room mates came and went all night. But it was cheap, included three meals a day (though not vegetarian and on strict timetables), was only two blocks from the beach and on the same block as the Kardashian’s boutique clothing store DASH.
Kyle had always wanted to go to an NBA game so his (late) birthday present from me was tickets to see Miami Heat play the Memphis Grizzlies at American Airlines Arena. The team was sitting on an impressive home game winning streak until they lost this game.
Miami meant the beach – we went every day, mixing it up between Miami Beach, South Beach and Haulover Beach. One day we hired bicycles and biked the boardwalks and around the South Beach area.
Our only bad experience was with tour company Half Price Tours – we booked a tour with them through GetyourGuide to Key West but when we arrived to take the tour we were not allowed on the bus as it was over booked. Two weeks later I was still waiting for a refund and with neither company proving to be at all accommodating or helpful, I ended up charging back the transaction on my credit card.
