2016… what the hell happened to my travel plans and dreams?
I was pretty determined not to publish my travel plans and dreams for 2017 as so few of 2016’s were actually realised. While I visited Hawaii and explored the Wairarapa that was about the extent of achieving what I had hoped or intended to this time last January.
From June to October I had no travel plans, flights booked, or even any idea when next trip would be – a situation I hadn’t found myself in for years.
After my blog was featured on Stuff my colleagues found out about it and I was often asked where I was going next. In reality I felt hindrances (whether real and imagined), and couldn’t imagine taking more than a couple of days off work without seriously stressing myself out once I returned.
Rapid trips to closer places became the ideal. I went to Hobart for my only other International trip of 2016, hit the small towns of Invercargill and Whangarei for work and drove up the top half of New Zealand’s South Island with friends.
I have higher hopes for my 2017 travel plans and dreams
A daytrip to the Hokitika Wild Food Festival in March, a flight to Hawkes Bay to see family, and a trip to Auckland to see Adele in concert are already booked over the next few months.
But (fingers crossed) the travel highlight of the year will be several weeks in Europe with one of my besties. The draft itinerary includes Portugal, Spain and Luxembourg and once this summer is over, July can’t come around fast enough.
I miss this colorful, amazing place. And also I’m already feeling the itch to go off on another adventure even though basically I just got home! 😬 #wanderlust #adventure #travelbug #travel #instatravel #travelgram #lisbon #portugal #lisboa #lisbonportugal #Super_Lisboa #colorful #livecolorfully #colorfullife #history #cityview #alfama #travelingram #traveltheworld #passportready
